Game of Thrones Season 7 Trailers Review

It’s time to get deep in the Game of Thrones Season 7. Trailer 2 contains all kinds of tasty morsels for us GOT tragics. Let’s go through it shot-by-shot.

It opens on Sansa walking away from the Heart tree in Winterfell’s Godswood. It’s been a location of huge importance in the show so far, a place where various characters have all been forced to grapple with a revelation or challenge. Perhaps that’s why she has a look of consternation. We hear Petry Baelish saying, “Don’t fight in the North, or the South. Fight every battle everywhere, always in your mind”.

We see the gates of Castle Black opening for two tiny figures in the snow: Meera and Bran (on his sled). That’s right gang, Bran is back in town. Head to our page of ultimate fan predictions to read about the theory of what this might mean (warning: it’s not positive for everyone south of the Wall). Not only is he through the Wall, he makes it to Winterfell. One shot shows him sitting in before the same Heart tree we mentioned earlier. But he’s not having such a good time; he has just used his magic as a warg to view an enormous army of White Walkers.

Daenerys has returned to the Targaryen ancestral home of Dragonstone. She’s running her hand along the giant stone map table, pondering her invasion of Westeros! Quick nerd recap: Dragonstone is the base from which Dany’s famed ancestor Aegon the Conqueror launched his own successful invasion of the mainland. Will she install a family that reigns for 300 years? Of course, it wouldn’t be Game of Thrones without shots of the three dragons wheeling above Dragonstone.

We’ve got a small team of the Unsullied led by Grey Worm attacking the Lannister’s home, Casterly Rock. This castle is meant to be impregnable, but it seems that they are sneaking in the back door with a little help from the #1 disenfranchised Lannister: Tyrion.

Jamie Lannister and Bronn command Lannister archers that are mowing down the Unsullied. Things seem to be going well for him, but then a few shots later he is bloodied and bruised, riding across a burning battlefield with lance in hand. Epic.

Next the Khaleesi’s screamers are pounding across another battlefield with a fully grown dragon flying close air support for them. Whoever is opposing them is not going to have a great day. The character riding the dragon may actually be Tyrion. Jump over to our 21 best fan predictions to see why.

Yara and Theon are pictured on a burning ship. It appears as though their uncle Euron has caught up to them and is meting out harsh punishment for stealing his ships.
Jon, Beric Dondarrion and a few other entreprising (brave/stupid) soldiers are pictured far north of the Wall, possibly at the Fist of the First Men. They are few in number and surrounded by an absolute flood of wights. It looks like a fight to the last man. Have HBO revealed the (final) death scene of Jon Snow? We hope not.

It ends with Sansa’s voice issuing a mysterious and dark phrase, “When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives”. Sounds rough, but then we see another shot of Jon cutting down a wight in the aforementioned battle… and everything is on fire. What could causing an inferno in the winter north of the wall? Yeap, you guessed it. Dragon time. Time to watch a song of ice and fire!!!
